You damage your own vessel while trying to land so you are stuck on the Ishimura until you can find a way off. I don't really have any specific gripes with the game, but I should point out that the story driving you through the derelict USG Ishimura is fairly standard stuff, and doesn't do much to excite the imagination much. In short, the game is extremely well designed. On top of all of this, most of the game takes place in narrow hallways and the tension is elevated by the claustrophobia. There are some light puzzle mechanics that arise from the combination of these mechanics, as well as some tense combat that is heightened by their implementation in tandem with certain enemy types. These elements are expertly used in combination to continually vary the gameplay from moment to moment. There are also sections of the game in which you move through zero-G environments, or places in which you are in a vacuum and are limited by your own oxygen supply. You are also equipped with a kinetic device that allows you to move objects around as if they are weightless, and a stasis device that can slow movement for an object or enemy for a short time. As you move through the ship, you get to use up to four guns from an arsenal of 10. There are a few different types of weapons to use, and each has specific advantages against specific enemy types, but there isn't any useless weapon in case you are left with only one type of ammo in your arsenal. If you unload on enemies without carefully aiming, you will run out of ammunition quickly. Like other horror games, Dead Space keeps you close to running out of resources at all times in order to push you to play skillfully. Though necromorphs come in all shapes and sizes, making for a diverse set of enemies to fight against, they are all vulnerable to dismemberment. You are an engineer moving through a dead-in-the-water space faring vessel while you are set upon by reanimated dead creatures called Necromorphs. Dead space is a game of claustrophobia and resource-starvation. I'm lukewarm when it comes to horror and third person shooter games, so this isn't anywhere near my favorite genre, but what Dead Space does with the genre, it does extremely well. 18h 55m PlayedI really enjoyed Dead space.
